A Weekend in Nashville

Hey y’all! Am I Southern yet!? In all seriousness, I spent last weekend in Music City!! Nashville is such a beautiful place with bustling neighborhoods, great food and great music. I had always wanted to visit Nashville but never got the chance until I applied for a graduate school that I just so happened to get accepted to! So technically, this was an "educational" trip... but who says you can't still have fun!? Below, I'll detail my top things to do, see, and experience in Nashville!
Food Scene
Nashville has an amazing food scene, I mean can Nashville hot chicken!? Many restaurants are farm to table, which makes my sustainability heart flutter. Although I didn't get to experience a few of the restaurants I had on my list; Hattie B's, Biscuit Love, etc, we ate really great meals everywhere! A few of my favorites I'll highlight are Frothy Monkey, Husk, and Burger Up. Our flight got in after being delayed by a serious snow storm (thanks, MN) but when we landed we were HUNGRY. I'd heard about the Frothy Monkey on a different blog about Nashville and knew it would be my kind of vibe. The menu is simple, mainly sandwiches, salads and a few small plates. Oh, and of course coffee. They have breakfast, lunch, and dinner options perfect for any time and pallet. Menu and locations can be found here: https://frothymonkey.com.
Husk was another one of my favorites, also farm to table, and the chef was actually friends with Anthony Bourdain! I thought that was so so cool! The menu is pretty small but each dish is a work of art! I had the fried chicken which was prepared Nashville HOT. I am a spice baby so I think the waitress knew I wasn't a local. I think I was most impressed by how many ingredients that they use are local. Next time I'm in Nash I will definitely be going back to Husk.
Burger Up is another restaurant that has several locations around Nashville including 12 South and East Nashville. This restaurant boasts the best burgers (including options for vegetarians), fries and salads! The rustic vibe was a great way to spend our Friday night before heading to the Grand Ole Opery. The fries were some of the best i've ever had. You could tell that everything was fresh and local. I would definitely recommend going to any of their locations in and around Nashville!
Things to See
The city of Nashville is beautiful. There is a main downtown and several neighborhoods surrounding that each have a different vibe. Some of my favorite things to see was the skyline from the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge! You can get on right off Broadway, which makes it easy and assessable. The bridge goes over the river but the best part are the views of the Nashville skyline! It was super cold and windy the day we went but the views were incredible!

Nashville has so many amazing opportunities to see beautiful street art! You can't say you've been to Nash without seeing the "I Believe in Nashville" sign. This is an iconic art piece on the streets of 12 South. Pro-tip go early, there will be a lot of tourists there. Another iconic spot in the #whatliftsyou wings in the gulch! We waited in a pretty heavy line full of bachelorette parties and female tourists. But the photos were worth it! Some of my favorite from our trip! If you're a fan of Kristin Cavalari, her store, Uncommon James is right near wings in the Gulch! While it was fun to see her first brick and mortar location and buy a ring I had my eye on, I probably wouldn't visit again but it was still a great experience!
Things to Experience
Nashville is obviously known for all the amazing musical artists that live and come from there. Two of the greatest things you can do in Nashville revolve around music and both are "Must Do's"! During your trip, look to see who is playing at the Grand Ole Opery! While this is pretty touristy, it was one of the highlights of my trip! It was amazing to see the place that so so many famous musicians have played and performed. Buy tickets in advance and get them directly on your phone to avoid a huge will call line. The second is to experience and wander down Lower Broadway!! This is where all the Honkey Tonks and music bars are located including the iconic Tootsies. We went during the day to avoid super large crowed, but you would have thought it was a Saturday night! You can have fun and listen to great music at any time of day on Lower Broad which I thought was great!
I hope you found my Nashville must do's helpful! If you get the chance, check out this amazing city. I sure can't wait to move there in the near future for school.
Until next time,
